The CE MARK marking, as provided for by the EU legislative framework (Regulation (EC) No 765/2008), is a mandatory conformity mark that must be borne by products placed on the market within the European Union, the European Economic Area (EEA) and Turkey, and which are required to comply with one or more European Directives.

The letters CE come from «Conformité Européenne», which means «European Conformity».

The mark CE indicates that the product has been assessed and certified as meeting the requirements of the legislation for the protection of safety, health and the environment, at least as regards the CE Directives.

Products bearing the CE marking have free access to the European Market. At the same time, many countries outside the European Union have made CE marking a requirement for allowing the import of products.

Products which do not comply with the relevant Directives and do not bear the mark CE, may not be placed on the market or used within the European Union.
